Fuel & Combustion 1392

The undergraduate course of Fuels & Combustion aimed at senior students to be acquined with concepts of fuels and combustion processes and their efficiency and also methods for saving energy and reducing harmful effects of combustion on our environment such as pollution and global warming.

In this course, students will use their previous knowledge on thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer in combustion systems and will learn essentials in design of a thermal system such as a ramjet. The students will learn the EES software for programming their design project and will provide a final report.

The contents of the fuel and combustion course is as follows:

1- Fuel types, production, and applications

2- Stoiciometric combustion analysis

3- Thermodynamic of combustion processes

4- Physics of combustion emphasising structure of laminar and turbulent, premixed and non-premixed flames

5- Chemistry of combustion focusing in chemical reactions, and combustion mechanisms

6- Enery saving and pollution issues

Prerequisites:

1- Fluid Mechanics

2- Thermodynamics

3- Heat Transfer

Grading Policy:

The course final mark is constitued of two main activity parts:

1- Design project (40%)

2-Final Exam (60%)
