Modelling of Non-Linear Aerodynamics During Limit Cycle Oscillations

This paper describes a preliminary investigation into the use of unsteady CFD results for modelling the nonlinear
aerodynamic forces acting on lifting surfaces. Unsteady Euler calculations were carried out at
transonic speeds using a simple two-degrees-of-freedom aeroelastic wing model. The lift and moment
coefficients resulting from prescribed heave and pitch inputs were determined for a range of Mach numbers.
A non-linear model was then identified. A good agreement between the responses of this model and the
results from the CFD model were obtained.
